Africa: Ordinary States, Altered Miracles

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 4:00 am - 4:00 am
CSIS B1 Conference Center
Africa: Ordinary States, Altered Miracles

with author
Richard Dowden, Director, Royal African Society

moderated by
Jennifer Cooke, Director, CSIS Africa Program

Richard Dowden first visited Africa as a volunteer teacher in Uganda during the first years of Idi Amin's rule. Since then, Richard has travelled to and written about almost every African country. As a journalist, first at the Times and then as Africa Editor at both The Independent and The Economist, Richard has spent decades covering the continent. In November 2002 he was appointed Director of the Royal African Society.

At this event, Richard discussed his widely-acclaimed new book, Africa: Altered States, Ordinary Miracles, and be on hand to sign copies. Books can be purchased at the event by check, cash or credit.
