The deployment of frontier AI is a national security priority. Faced with stiff competition from Chinese developers, the United States is at a crossroads on how to accelerate domestic development and “close pathways to adversaries attaining [military] AI capabilities.” As the new administration formulates a new AI Action Plan, it has become increasingly important to resolve questions on how to diffuse U.S. AI capabilities—not only in the civilian economy, but for national defense.

Please join the CSIS Defense and Security Department for a conversation on the diffusion of U.S. AI capabilities, U.S. and Chinese military adoption of AI, and the impact of open-source AI on the defense industrial base. Introductory remarks will be given by Dr. Tom Karako, director of the Missile Defense Project and senior fellow with the Defense and Security Department. The event will feature panelists Dr. Divyansh Kaushik, Vice President, Beacon Global Strategies, Dr. Keegan McBride, Lecturer in AI, Government and Policy, Oxford Internet Institute, and Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security, and Glenn Parham, Former Pentagon Generative AI Tech Lead. The discussion will be moderated by Masao Dahlgren, Fellow, Missile Defense Project.
