Armchair Discussion with Keith Krach

Monday, April 26, 2021 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Please join us for an armchair discussion with Keith Krach, former Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment. In his former role, Mr. Krach led U.S. diplomatic initiatives to expedite economic growth, improve energy security, and protect the environment.

Mr. Krach’s signature achievement is the creation of the Clean Network Alliance of Democracies, which now includes 60 countries representing two thirds of the world's global GDP, over two hundred Telco’s and dozens of the world's leading companies. Mr. Krach’s team also made history through its diplomatic breakthroughs with Taiwan, including the largest onshoring in history to the US with Taiwan Semiconductor's 12-billion-dollar semiconductor plant.

Prior to his diplomatic role, Mr. Krach had a 42-year career in the private sector, where he spearheaded transformations at companies in the engineering, technology, business-to-business e-commerce fields, and higher education. Mr. Krach served as chairman, CEO, and president of DocuSign, which became the industry leader in electronic signature and digital transaction management. He also co-founded Ariba and as Chairman & CEO and took Ariba public, ultimately achieving a market capitalization of $40 billion.

Mr. Krach has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Purdue University, Chairman of Angie’s List, and was the youngest Vice President in General Motors’ history. He is dedicated to paying it forward—co-founding the Global Mentor Network to mentor a new generation of transformational leaders in the public, private and social sectors.

In this armchair discussion, Dan and Mr. Krach will discuss Mr. Krach’s extensive career experience both in the private and public sector, U.S.-China competition, global supply chains, closing the digital divide, and upcoming leadership races in various multilateral organizations.

This event is made possible through generous support to CSIS.
