Australia in the Asian Century: Between America and China

A Panel with Professor Hugh White and Christopher Johnson
Friday, December 7, 2012 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Center for Strategic and International Studies B1 Conference Facility A/B 1800 K Street, NWWashington DC, 20006

Please join us for a panel with prominent Australian academic, Professor Hugh White, and CSIS Freeman Chair in China Studies, Christopher K. Johnson, to discuss the future of Australia-China-United States relations. The discussion will be moderated by CSIS Chair for Southeast Asia Studies Ernest Bower.

Hugh White is professor of strategic studies at the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. He writes about Australian strategic and defense policy, and the regional and global security issues that most directly affect Australia. He has worked on these issues for 30 years as an intelligence analyst, journalist, ministerial adviser, senior official, think tank analyst and academic.

White earlier served as an adviser to former prime minister Bob Hawk and former defense minister Kim Beazley. He also served as deputy secretary for Strategy and Intelligence in the Department of Defense and as the first director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

He has recently written a new book The China Choice: Why America Should Share Power. One of his other notable publications includes Power Shift: Australia's Future between Washington and Beijing, published in September 2010.

Special thanks goes to the Australian National University for making this event possible.
