The Benefits and 'Costs of Cold'

July 30, 2013 • 9:00 – 10:30 am EDT

Arctic Economics in the 21st Century

Please join us for an important conversation with Lieutenant Governor Treadwell regarding the future of economic development in the American Arctic. How will the U.S. balance significant economic benefits against the challenge and cost of working in such a sensitive and demanding physical environment?  While the state of Alaska is keenly interested in developing its Arctic resources, Washington seems very reluctant to develop or pursue a national economic strategy for this region.  Will President Obama's recently released National Strategy for the Arctic Region resolve this tension?  How did the residents of Alaska respond when senior White House and administration officials unveiled this strategy during a recent visit to Alaska?

Please note that this session has been rescheduled to take place on July 30th from 9:00am to 10:30am.
