Please join the Renewing American Innovation Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) for a discussion of Pfizer Chairman and CEO Albert Bourla’s new book Moonshot: Inside Pfizer's Nine-Month Race to Make the Impossible Possible. CSIS President and CEO Dr. John Hamre, will be joined by Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla to unpack this remarkable story of how Pfizer’s scientists responded to the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver a revolutionary new vaccine to the world in only nine months.

A veterinarian by training, Dr. Bourla began his career at Pfizer in 1993 in Greece and immigrated to the U.S. in 2001. He became Pfizer’s CEO in 2019 and chairman in 2020. In 2021, he was named CEO of the Year by CNN Business, included in Insider Magazine's Most Transformative CEOs list, and inducted into the Crain's New York Business 2021 Hall of Fame. Also, Bourla was awarded the 2022 Genesis Prize for his leadership in the development of the Pfizer–BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr. Bourla’s book tells a story of American entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation. It showcases the strength the U.S. biopharmaceutical sector lends to the nation’s national security and soft power.

This event was made possible through general support to CSIS and was recorded on May 6, 2022.
