Book Launch: Three Dangerous Men with Seth Jones

Please join the CSIS International Security Program for the book launch of Three Dangerous Men: Russia, China, Iran, and the Rise of Irregular Warfare, by CSIS’s Dr. Seth G. Jones, Harold Brown Chair and director of the International Security Program.

In Three Dangerous Men, Dr. Jones examines how three key figures in Moscow, Beijing, and Tehran built irregular warfare campaigns that are eroding American power. He outlines key steps the United States must take to alter how it thinks about―and engages in―competition before it is too late. Conventional warfare—clashes between large military forces—defined twentieth-century power. But today the U.S.’s principal adversaries, Russia, China, and Iran, have adopted a different style of competition. Cyber attacks, covert action, proxy conflicts, information and disinformation campaigns, espionage, and economic coercion—these are the tools of irregular warfare, which will increasingly reshape international politics. As Dr. Jones argues, the future of warfare will be closer to the Chinese general Sun Tzu than to the Prussian military theorist Carl von Clausewitz.

CSIS’s Emily Harding, Deputy Director and Senior Fellow of the International Security Program, will moderate a discussion between Dr. Seth Jones and David Sanger of The New York Times.
