Breaking Bad: South Korea's Nuclear Option

April 29, 2024 • 1:00 – 2:00 pm EDT

Is South Korea on the verge of a nuclear breakout? Much of the speculation in Washington and Seoul about South Korea’s nuclear ambitions has been informed by a handful of recent public opinion polls. This has created an echo chamber effect in Washington and Seoul where some experts have accepted South Korean nuclear ambitions as a reality.

CSIS' Victor Cha conducted the first U.S. multi-question polling of strategic elites in South Korea on the nuclear question. The new findings of this study “Breaking Bad: South Korea's Nuclear Option” have significant policy implications and the author provides several recommendations for the United States.

Please join the CSIS Korea Chair for the release of the report.

This event is made possible by general support to the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
