Careers in Global Development with James Fleming
This session features James Fleming, who serves as USAID's Division Chief for Disaster Response in Asia, Latin America, and Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia (ALE) at the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), the federal office responsible for coordinating the U.S. Government's response to international disasters. Mr. Fleming guides the response program and contingency planning for disaster responses, as well as regional and country-specific disaster risk reduction initiatives.
With a mandate to save lives, alleviate suffering and reduce social and economic impact of disasters, OFDA monitors, mitigates and responds to global hazards and humanitarian needs as they arise. In fiscal year 2015, OFDA responded to 49 disasters in 45 countries and provided approximately $1.9 billion in humanitarian assistance.
