The Americas Program of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Inter-American Dialogue will co-host presentations by His Excellency, José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States, The Honorable Thomas A. Shannon, Jr., Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, and The Honorable Barry F. Lowenkron, Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. They will discuss the challenges to democracy in Latin America and explore appropriate policy responses to them, with special attention to the role of the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
