China’s Human Capital Landscape

How will the strengths and weaknesses of China’s human capital landscape impact national competitiveness? China’s efforts to maintain economic growth, strengthen supply chains, develop strategic STEM sectors, and secure a modern military edge hinges on the ability to cultivate and utilize human capital. As the United States and other countries increasingly engage in multidomain competition with China, it is critical to start from a clear-eyed understanding of China’s human capital landscape and Beijing’s strategy for nurturing national talent. 

Join us on May 16th at 1:30 p.m. EST, for a discussion of China’s human capital landscape, drawing on insights from a new report jointly produced by CSIS and the Brookings Institution. Report co-authors Jude Blanchette, Freeman Chair in China Studies at CSIS, and Ryan Hass, senior fellow and the Michael H. Armacost Chair in the Foreign Policy program at Brookings, will begin the event with a discussion of key takeaways from the report, followed by a panel featuring Emily Weinstein, a research fellow at Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology, and Leta Hong Fincher, the author of Leftover Women: The Resurgence of Gender Inequality in China.
