Commercial Wireless Networks and National Defense: Emerging Requirements, Challenges, and Opportunities

Thursday, April 7, 2022 9:30 am - 10:30 am
Online-Only

The proposed Innovation and Competition Act would allocate $1.5 billion in spending on 5G mobile networks through 2026, stressing the importance of 5G development in the United States. 4G laid the groundwork for the “app economy”, and 5G builds on it to create the digital infrastructure for future innovation and economic growth. Ensuring that the United States can take full advantage of this growth calls for an assessment of the new technical requirements for 5G and next-gen networks. The global supply chain introduces security concerns that need to be addressed, but concerns need to be balanced with the significant opportunities widespread deployment of 5G can create.

Join CSIS for an event on the emerging requirements, challenges, and opportunities for commercial wireless networks and national defense. The panel will feature Terry Halvorsen, General Manager for IBM’s U.S. Federal Market, Callie Field, President of T-Mobile’s Business Group and Major General Robert Wheeler, former Deputy Chief Information Officer for Command, Control, Communications and Computers and Information Infrastructure Capabilities (DCIO for C4IIC) at the Department of Defense.

This event is made possible by general support to CSIS.
