The remarks by Representative Langevin were pre-recorded on September 15, 2021.

As the United States faces intense competition in the race to innovate, we can no longer assume that technological leadership will be automatic or unchallenged. Global competition in innovation is amplified by the shifting innovation ecosystem in the U.S. that is oriented towards commercial markets instead of national security needs.

Please join CSIS for a live event on innovation and national security priorities with John Sargent, Specialist in Science and Technology Policy at the Congressional Research Service (CRS), and William Greenwalt, Nonresident Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). We will open with an introduction from Congressman Jim Langevin and close with remarks from Michael Brown, Director of the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). The discussion will explore how to best align the U.S. innovation ecosystem to national security, focusing on key areas for investment and reforming Department of Defense procedures to support innovation.

This event is done in collaboration with the Department of Defense (DOD).
