A Conversation with H.E. Roberto Flores Bermúdez, Ambassador of Honduras
Ambassador Roberto Flores Bermúdez gave an overview of the current regional situation in Central America, as well as going in to specific details about domestic achievements and challenges within Honduras. He identified three main challenges faced by the countries of Central America— organized crime, narco-trafficking, and poverty— and outlined how each of these challenges threatens progress in the areas of democratic governance, security, and development. The Ambassador also gave a comprehensive overview of the advances and growth in Honduras in recent years, including the impact of regional agreements such as CAFTA, and internationally funded initiatives such as the Millennium Challenge Compact and the Central American Electrical Interconnection System Project (SIEPAC) as well as other regional initiatives to promote security and economic development. Following his presentation, Ambassador Flores answered questions from the audience.
