A Conversation with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto

At a historic moment for Finland, please join CSIS for a conversation with Pekka Haavisto, the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has galvanized a strong European response, from diplomatic condemnation and economic sanctions to the provision of lethal aid to Ukraine. Finland’s and Sweden’s response was to officially announce, in mid-May, their intention to join NATO.

This discussion is an opportunity to hear from Minister Haavisto on how he sees Europe’s security environment and the impetus behind Finland's historic decision to join NATO, as well as how they will work with the United States and other allies.
