The CSIS Southeast Asia Program is pleased to present the CSIS-Pertamina Banyan Tree Leadership Forum with U.S. Representatives Joaquin Castro and Ann Wagner. They will discuss the new bipartisan congressional Caucus on ASEAN, the priorities of the new caucus, how Congress views Southeast Asia, and why the region matters to the United States.
Castro is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 20th congressional district, having served in office since 2013. During his time in the House of Representatives, he has served on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Foreign Affairs Committee. In the 114th Congress, Castro was named a Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Leadership. Castro previously served five terms in the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013.
Wagner is the U.S. Representative for Missouri's 2nd congressional district, having served in office since 2013. During her time in the House of Representatives, she has served on the Committee on Financial Services and the Foreign Affairs Committee. Wagner was United States Ambassador to Luxembourg from 2005 to 2009, and before that served as chair of the Missouri Republican Party from 1999 to 2005, becoming the first woman to occupy the position.
