The CSIS Southeast Asia Program and Energy & National Security Program are pleased to present the official launch of two new initiatives focusing on energy in Southeast Asia, supported by Indonesia’s PT Pertamina. For the launch, CSIS welcomes General (Ret.) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, who will discuss U.S.-Indonesia relations, Indonesia’s role in Southeast Asia, and broader regional strategic issues. A reception will follow his remarks.

General (Ret.) Pandjaitan was appointed Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs in July 2016. He previously served as Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, and before that as Chief of Staff to President Joko Widodo. General (Ret.) Pandjaitan has also served as ambassador to Singapore and as minister of industry and trade. He is the founder of PT Toba Sejahtra Group, an energy and mining firm, and served in Indonesia's army from 1970 to 2000.

Made possible with sponsorship from Pertamina, and held in cooperation with the U.S.-Indonesia Society (USINDO).
