Cultivating Competitiveness: Charting North American Prosperity through Food and Agriculture
Brought to you by
North America is one of only a few regions in the world which produces more food than it consumes, a critical advantage as climate change, water scarcity, and geopolitical tensions make the agricultural sector vulnerable to market fluctuations. The three countries comprising North America also possess unique synergies, such as different growing seasons and climates, which allows for year-round availability of fresh produce. Canada, for example, has vast grain and oilseed production, the United States has very diversified crop and livestock systems, and Mexico has a rich variety of fruits and vegetables that thrive in warmer climates. This panel will highlight the strengths of the United States, Mexico, and Canada and discuss the unique factors that make North America a particularly strategic trading bloc with a focus on increasing the region’s global competitiveness.
