Derwin Pereira Indonesia Initiative with Ridwan Kamil
The CSIS Sumitro Chair for Southeast Asia Studies is pleased to invite you for a discussion with Ridwan Kamil, mayor of the city of Bandung, Indonesia. Ridwan will discuss how cooperation can be enhanced between municipal and local governments in Indonesia and the United States.
Ridwan was elected mayor of Bandung in June 2013. An architect by training, he teaches at the Bandung Institute of Technology and runs his own architecture firm, Urbane Indonesia. He graduated from the University of California, Berkley, and began his professional career in the United States before returning to Indonesia. Ridwan is often seen as an example of a new generation of Indonesian leaders who are committed to effective governance and are not beholden to traditional networks of political patronage.
In recognition of the strategic importance of a rising Indonesia, CSIS created the Derwin Pereira Indonesia Initiative to enhance understanding of this critical nation. The initiative offers a platform for Indonesian government, business, and civil society leaders visiting Washington to give briefings and talks on Indonesia. These individuals represent a diverse range of views and political perspectives, providing a deeper understanding of Indonesia to the Washington policy community. The initiative is made possible with support from Derwin Pereira.
