The CSIS Turkey project hosted a discussion on U.S. – Turkish economic relations with His Excellency Zafer Caglayan, Minister of State Responsible for Foreign Trade.
Minister Caglayan is one of the two Turkish ministers charged by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the responsibility to implement the ‘Framework for Strategic Economic and Commercial Cooperation’ designed to provide meaning to the model partnership concept following his meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House in December 2009.
Minister Caglayan assumed his current portfolio in May 2009. He was previously Minister of Industry and Commerce. He was elected to the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 2007 after having been a successful industrialist for nearly thirty years and served for over a decade as the president of the Ankara Chamber of Industry and vice president of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.
