Join us for a conversation on the nexus of development and strategy in the Sahel as regional experts discuss the poverty alleviation within a politically instable region. The Sahel stretches across the southernmost land of Northern Africa and consists of numerous fragile states. Sahel countries such as mali, Mauritania, Chad, South Sudan, Senegal, and Algeria are some of the pooerst places in the world, but poverty alleviation has become difficult due to the presence of Affiliates of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has driven international assistance out of the region and created additional development challenges. NGOs have struggled to maintain the effective delivery of services due to political instability and security breaches. Development in the Sahel requires improved governance and coordination between donors and regional stakeholders.
