A Diminishing Transatlantic Partnership?

The Impact of the Financial Crisis on European Defense and Foreign Assistance Capabilities

A Diminishing Transatlantic Partnership?
The Impact of the Financial Crisis on European Defense and Foreign Assistance Capabilities

Featuring

Stephen J. Flanagan
Henry A. Kissinger Chair and Senior Vice President

David J. Berteau
Senior Adviser and Director, Defense Industrial-Initiatives Group

Heather A. Conley
Senior Fellow and Director, Europe Program

Please join us for a discussion of the findings and policy recommendations of our recently released report, A Diminishing Transatlantic Partnership? The report assesses the impact of the global financial crisis, and the subsequent European recession and foreign debt crisis, on Europe's ability to sustain its contributions to international security, its defense industrial base, and official development assistance. It concludes that as the ongoing economic and political crisis deepens, Europe is likely to be a less capable, willing, and interested partner in those endeavors.

We hope you will join us for what promises to be a timely discussion as European finance ministers continue to grapple with the consequences of the Greek debt crisis and just before NATO Defense Ministers gather next month to review the future of key Alliance missions and initiatives.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP to KissingerChair@csis.org.
