Diversity and Inclusion in Diplomacy

June 30, 2021 • 2:30 – 3:15 pm EDT

As the world marks Pride Month, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and championing their rights abroad remains as important a task as ever for the United Kingdom and the United States.  That effort starts at home, where both countries face the challenge of how to break down barriers to opportunities for LGBTQ+ diplomats and creating a more inclusive and diverse workplace.

Please join CSIS’s Human Rights Initiative, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and the British Embassy, for a discussion on the challenges and advances for the LGBTQ+ community in diplomacy. CSIS’s Marti Flacks will moderate a conversation with Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley and Ambassador Dame Karen Pierce on U.S. and UK perspectives on the importance of diversity and representation in public service, and how both countries are working to advance LGBTQ+ rights abroad.

This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
