Emerging Economies & New Models of Public-Private Partnerships

Views from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the United States, and South Korea
Friday, February 24, 2012 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Center for Strategic and International Studies1800 K Street, NWWashington DC, 20006

Featuring a panel with:

Hong Seok-in, Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of Korea

Sigrid Kaag, Assistant Secretary-General and Assistant Administrator, Bureau for External Relations and Advocacy, UNDP

Curt Reintsma, Director of Donor Engagement, USAID

Moderated by Daniel F. Runde, Director, Project on Prosperity and Development, CSIS

Surging, emerging economies such as Turkey and South Korea, along with their own fast-growing multinationals, are driving global growth and upending the international trading system. Some are creating new models of public-private partnerships, with investments aimed at reaching billions of the world’s poor through inclusive business models, providing access to new goods or services and creating new jobs and opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Join us for a discussion of how this is reshaping the traditional development landscape and how UNDP is working to develop new strategic partnerships that comprise emerging powers and the private sector, how South Korea approaches development, and how USAID is leveraging its resources to engage emerging economies in new ways.
