Enabling U.S. Investment and Trade: Public-Private Cooperation in the Developing World

Jose W. Fernandez, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs

William C. Lane, Director of Government Affairs, Caterpillar

Moderated by Dan Runde, Co-Director of the Project on U.S. Leadership in Development

In the context of the changing international landscape—the global financial crisis, the Arab Spring, and the pending Free Trade Agreements—both the U.S. government and private sector are in the process of adjusting their policies to take full advantage of emerging trade and investment opportunities.  Assistant Secretary of State Jose Fernandez and William Lane of Caterpillar discussed how the U.S. government and business can better work together to enable trade and investment in the developing world.
