Enhancing India-ASEAN Connectivity: Key Findings

Monday, June 3, 2013 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

With
Ernest Z. Bower
Senior Adviser and Sumitro Chair for Southeast Asia Studies, CSIS

Amb. Karl F. Inderfurth
Senior Adviser and Wadhwani Chair for U.S.-India Policy Studies, CSIS

Amb. Hemant K. Singh
Wadhwani Chair for India-U.S. Policy Studies,
Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER)

And Presentation By
Ted Osius
Senior State Department Visiting Fellow and Project Lead, CSIS

Twenty years ago, India launched its ‘Look East’ policy. For most of those 20 years, Myanmar’s isolation, mistrust between India and its neighbors and poor infrastructure connectivity hindered the development of links between South and Southeast Asia. With Myanmar’s tentative opening and improved relations between India and Bangladesh, an opportunity exists for India to boost trade and security ties with mainland and maritime Southeast Asia. And the United States, during President Barack Obama’s second term, is committed to rebalancing toward Asia, with India playing a pivotal role.

Please join us for the preliminary launch of our Enhancing India-ASEAN Connectivity report's key findings. Ted Osius, Senior State Department Visiting Fellow in the CSIS Sumitro and Wadhwani Chairs and lead author of the report, will present its executive summary and key recommendations. The full report will be released later in June.
