European Defense Integration: Bridging the Gap between Strategy and Capabilities
At a public event attended by over 50 defense and corporate analysts, Admiral Edmund Giambastiani, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, endorsed the effort behind the recent CSIS report, European Defense Integration: Bridging the Gap Between Strategy and Capabilities. Admiral Giambastiani outlined his agreement with the report by stating: "Any effort which results in more - and more relevant - military capabilities for our European allies is a net benefit for the United States."
The Vice Chairman's remarks were echoed by the co-chairs of the EDI effort, General Joseph Ralston, a former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as well Supreme Allied Commander Europe, and General Klaus Naumann, former Chief of Defense for Germany.
Other panelists included Michele Flournoy, Julianne Smith, and David Scruggs of CSIS.
