Since taking office, the Trump administration has increasingly scrutinized European digital legislation, particularly the Digital Services Act (DSA), on the grounds that it encourages digital censorship.

On February 26, 2025, the Wadhwani AI Center is pleased to host Christel Schaldemose, Vice President of the European Parliament and lead rapporteur of the DSA. Ms. Schaldemose will join Wadhwani AI Center senior fellow Laura Caroli to break down the DSA and the problem the policy aims to address. The event will also examine how the policy impacts American companies, and how the EU views the DSA in relation to freedom of expression.

Since becoming a Member of the European Parliament in 2006, Ms. Schaldemose has been a key advocate for consumer protection and digital regulation. Her focus remains on ensuring the effective implementation of the DSA, enhancing platform accountability, and combating disinformation. In 2023, Ms. Schaldemose also contributed to the European Media Freedom Act, aiming to bolster media independence and transparency across EU member states.

This event is made possible by general support to CSIS.
