The Folly of "Imperial Integration"
Dr. Vladislav Inozemtsev will outline the major challenges that the formation of Putin’s Eurasian Economic Union will face in the coming years. These include: the lack of mutual economic benefit for all participants; Russia’s role in the organization, which now stands as a threat to all other members; the limited potential for the Eurasian Economic Union to develop into an independent center of power in Eurasia; and domestic opposition in Russia from nationalists and liberals alike. In sum, the confluence of these factors will be sufficient to halt the drive for Eurasian integration in Russian politics once they become clearly visible, even despite Putin’s support for the project.
