The Future of the French Navy: A Conversation with Admiral Pierre Vandier
Please join the CSIS International Security Program for a conversation with Admiral Pierre Vandier, Chief of the French Navy (Marine Nationale). He will join Dr. Seth G. Jones, CSIS Senior Vice President and Director of the International Security Program, to discuss an overview of the priorities of the French Navy, his vision on French-U.S. naval cooperation, and how the French Navy envisions future growth capabilities.
Admiral Pierre Vandier has served in the French Navy for more than 30 years. He began his role as Chief of the French Navy in September 2020. Prior to this, he served as Principal Staff Officer of the Minister of the Armed Forces. His ship commands include the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. Admiral Vandier is a graduate of the Ecole Navale in Brest where he specialized in naval aviation. He is also a member of the 65th session of the High Military Studies Centre (CHEM) and of the 68th session of the Higher Studies in National Defence Institute (IHEDN).
