Wednesday, May 11, 2022 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Online-Only

Please join the CSIS International Security Program for a conversation with Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chief of the Defence Staff of Italy. Admiral Dragone will join Dr. Seth G. Jones, CSIS Senior Vice President and Director of the International Security Program, to discuss the priorities of the Italian Armed Forces. Admiral Dragone and Dr. Jones will discuss such issues as the future of Italy’s armed forces, Italy’s defense budget and defense planning, implications of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the evolution of NATO and the European Union.

Admiral Dragone has completed 17 years of continuous service as a Commanding Officer. Prior to that, Admiral Dragone was appointed as Superintendent of the Italian Naval Academy, and Navy General Staff Air Warfare and Naval Air Force Commander. Prior to assuming his current position, Admiral Cavo Dragone served in many areas of Naval Aviation, achieving Combat Readiness Qualification on various types of helicopters and aircraft among which UH-1L, UH-1N, H3 and Harrier AV8B Plus (total of 2500 hours flight time). Admiral Dragone attended the Naval War College in Livorno, and has a masters degree in naval and maritime sciences from Pisa University and a masters degree in political science from Trieste University.
