The Future of U.S.-Venezuelan Relations
On April 26, CSIS hosted Lino Gutierrez, the deputy assistant secretary for Hemispheric Affairs at the U.S. State Department, and Luis Herrera Marcano, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Venezuela, who discussed the attempted overthrow of the Hugo Chvez administration and the future of U.S.-Venezuelan relations. "Somewhat humbled by his recent political downfall and reinstatement earlier this month, Chvez has signaled a willingness to rethink his dealings with domestic and foreign critics," said Miguel Diaz, director of the CSIS South America/Mercosur Project.
