Germany, Europe and the Future of Transatlantic Relations

February 13 – 14, 2013

A Discussion with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Former Vice Chancellor of Germany

The Europe Program and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation are pleased to welcome Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the current minority leader in the German Bundestag and Germany's former Minister and Vice Chancellor.  Dr. Steinmeier will present his views on the role of Germany in Europe and the future of transatlantic relations.

European integration has been a defining factor in German policy making for half a century.  Since the beginning of the Euro debt crisis, expectations regarding German political leadership and its vision for Europe's future have been raised.  As Germany prepares for federal elections this September, it is important for Washington to have an understanding of how current German domestic dynamics and differing political visions about Germany's role in Europe will impact both the ultimate resolution of the debt crisis and the future of the transatlantic partnership.
