Global Dimensions of U.S.-Japan Relations Briefings - Recent policy Developments in Electric Commerce
Mr. Garrison and Mr. Hartmann discussed major issues with the Internet throughout 1998 and issues that we will face concerning the Internet into the 21st century. Their discussion centered around the necessity to develop infostruture and international laws for the Internet as the market for Internet access increases. Mr. Garrison and Mr. Hartmann outlined the problems countries will face as we enter the age of electronic commerce and the potential for cybercrimes and cyber terrorism if infostructure developments do not keep up with Internet developments. The discussion was wrapped up by asking the various participants what the Internet will mean to the growth of their respective companies and how they see the Internet's role in the future of their companies.
