March 19, 2021 • 1:00 – 1:45 pm EDT

The CSIS International Security Program cordially invites you to: A Conversation with Chairman Adam Schiff on the Global Rise of Authoritarianism

Please join CSIS for a special event with Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA). This event will explore steps the Biden administration and Congress can take to reassert U.S. leadership around the world to counter the dangerous spread of authoritarianism, and how the U.S. intelligence community can track and analyze the harmful, cross-cutting threats to our national security, including the impacts of climate change and global health. The discussion will also examine how U.S. efforts to revitalize the strength and faith in democracy at home are integral to countering authoritarianism globally.

Representative Adam Schiff is the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and previously served as the Ranking Member from 2015 to 2019. He has sponsored legislation reaffirming the centrality of a free press to the health of democracy around the world. He has also introduced legislation to improve accountability and transparency in government in order to protect U.S. democracy.

Dr. John J. Hamre, CSIS President and CEO, will deliver introductory remarks. Dr. Seth Jones, CSIS senior vice president, Harold Brown Chair, and director of the International Security Program will join Chairman Adam Schiff for this discussion.

Please submit your online questions via the button on the event page. We will incorporate your audience questions into the Q&A session.

This event is made possible by general support to the Center for Strategic & International Studies.
