The Great Surge: The Ascent of the Developing World

September 15, 2016 • 3:00 – 4:30 pm EDT

A Book Discussion with Dr. Steven Radelet

Please join us for a presentation and conversation with Dr. Steven Radelet, of Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, on his newest book The Great Surge: The Ascent of the Developing World. The book presents the message that we live at a time of the greatest progress among the global poor in human history. Never before have so many people in so many developing countries made so much progress in reducing poverty, improving health, increasing incomes, expanding health, reducing conflict, and encouraging democracy. The Great Surge tells the story of this unprecedented progress over the last two decades, why it happened, and what it may portend for the future.

Following a presentation, Dr. Steven Radelet will sit down with Daniel F. Runde for a conversation about the book’s key messages and the future of global development. There will then be the opportunity for questions from the audience. We hope you will be able to join us for this session.

This event is part of CSIS’s ongoing “Chevron Forum on Development” series, which seeks to highlight the role of the private sector in global development and is made possible by Chevron.
