A Growing Terrorist Threat? Assessing "Homegrown" Extremism in the United States

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
B1 Conference RoomCenter for Strategic and International Studies1800 K Street, NWWashington DC, 20006

FIVE events during the fall of 2009 thrust concerns over “homegrown” terrorism—or extremist violence perpetrated by U.S. legal residents and citizens—into public view. A new CSIS report examines these five cases, situating them within the context of recent U.S. efforts to address domestic radicalization.

Arnaud de Borchgrave, Director and Senior Adviser, CSIS Transnational Threats Project, will moderate a panel of experts to discuss the topic. Joining him will be:

Rick “Ozzie” Nelson, Director and Senior Fellow, CSIS Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Program, and co-author of A Growing Terrorist Threat? Assessing “Homegrown” Extremism in the United States.

Marc Sageman, M.D., Ph.D., Founder, Sageman Consulting, LLC, and author of Leaderless Jihad: Terror Networks in the Twenty-First Century.

Philip Anderson, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and Director, Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute.

Frank J. Cilluffo, Associate Vice President, Director, Homeland Security Policy Institute, The George Washington University.
