Growing U.S.-China Commercial Tensions: The View from Shanghai

Wednesday, September 26, 2018 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
CSIS Headquarters

Join the Freeman Chair in China Studies on September 26 for an event featuring members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai for a frank and informative discussion about the state of the US-China commercial relationship. While US-China business ties have significantly benefited both countries over the past several decades, there are growing doubts about how mutually beneficial ties are. As a result, the Trump administration has taken dramatic measures to rebalance the relationship, placing American businesses in a very complex position.

During the event, Freeman Chair Chris Johnson will give introductory remarks and Kenneth Jarrett, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, will present the results of the most recent business climate survey of the chamber’s members. This will then be followed by a roundtable panel moderated by Freeman Chair Deputy Director Scott Kennedy that will address how they are adapting to the evolving environment and strengths and weaknesses of alternative policy approaches the United States could take to promote a truly mutually beneficial relationship.
