IEA’s Medium-Term Coal Market Report 2016
The CSIS Energy & National Security Program is pleased to host Carlos Fernandez Alvarez, Senior Energy Analyst at the International Energy Agency, to present IEA's Medium-Term Coal Market Report 2016. The report projects a decline of the share of coal in the power generation mix from over 41% in 2013 to approximately 36% in 2021 and highlights the continuation of a major geographic shift in the global coal market toward Asia. In addition, this year’s report has particular focus on Chinese dominance in global coal markets, productivity improvements and cost-cutting by producers, and the role of carbon capture and storage.
