Mr. Yongho Tae was North Korea’s deputy ambassador to the United Kingdom in 2016, when he fled with his family to South Korea, making him the highest-ranking North Korean diplomat ever to defect to South Korea. His most recent position was as a member of the 21st National Assembly, representing the Gangnam A district of Seoul. As of July 2024, he started his newly appointed position as secretary general of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council.
