The Sumitro Chair will host The Indonesia Conference @CSIS on Thursday, May 16, 2013, as the fourth in its ongoing Asia Pacific Conferences @CSIS series. The full day program will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel.
The conference will feature keynote remarks by Indonesian foreign minister Marty Natalegawa and defense minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro panels by an all-star line up of Indonesian and U.S. ministers, senior officials, thought leaders, business executives, and the media.
The focus of the discussion is to put new ideas and energy into the US Indonesia relationship generally, and specifically to table and discuss ideas that CSIS will develop into recommendations for taking the Indonesia-U.S. Comprehensive Partnership to a new level by 2020. CSIS’ Sumitro Chair for Southeast Asian Studies is writing a major research document and preparing a set of recommendations on the U.S.-Indonesia relationship ahead of President Obama’s October trip to Bali and Brunei Darussalam for the APEC and East Asia Summit, respectively.
The Indonesia Conference will focus on three key areas:
- Indonesia’s Role in the development of an integrated ASEAN and Indo-Pacific region
- Defining a fair and sustainable economic partnership
- Enhancing security and stability in the Indo-Pacific
