Japan Chair Forum: "The Melancholy of a Japanese Centrist-Conservative"
Mr. Yukio Okamoto, president of Okamoto Associates Inc. spoke at the CSIS Japan Chair Forum on December 1.
Mr. Okamoto was a career diplomat in Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1968 to 1991. He held various positions including First Secretary at the Japanese Embassy at Cairo and Political Counselor at the Japanese Embassy in Washington, Director of the National Security Affairs Division and Director of the First North American Division. Mr. Okamoto also served as Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Okinawa affairs (1996-1998), Special Advisor to the Cabinet on foreign affairs (2000-2001), and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on foreign affairs (2002-2004).
