Keeping Chemical Weapons Out of the Hands of Terrorists

The Elimination of Libya's Remaining Chemical Stockpile
Thursday, November 10, 2016 9:30 am - 11:30 am
CSIS Headquarters

The nonproliferation community achieved a quiet triumph last month with the effective international operation to secure and remove the last chemical weapons precursors that remained in Libya, eliminating the threat of them falling into the wrong hands. Join the International Security Program as State Department officials, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, and international partners discuss for the first time how this historic operation came together and played out amidst the ongoing Libyan conflict, why the Islamic State threat heightened the urgency of the removal effort, and what lessons this event holds for stopping chemical weapons use in Syria.
