Tuesday, May 17, 2016 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
CSIS Headquarters, Concourse Room 115

The Project on U.S. Leadership in Development presents Careers in Development:

Managing Projects in the Field: Keys to Successful Implementation and Oversight

Featuring:
Mike Walsh
Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer
DAI | Development Alternatives, Inc.

In this Careers in Development session, Mike Walsh will discuss his extensive experience in global development implementation, which ranges from positions held in the Peace Corps/Philippines, USAID Missions in Bangladesh, Egypt and East Africa to now overseeing compliance at Development Alternative, Inc. (DAI). He will delve into his experiences managing diverse portfolios in the field and what determines a project’s success. Mr. Walsh will also field questions from and offer advice to young professionals interested in building careers in global development implementation.

Mr. Walsh currently serves as Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at DAI; working with project teams worldwide to ensure standards are being met. He has accumulated nearly 30 years of experience in global contracting operations. Prior to this time at DAI, he served in USAID’s field offices managing some of the most innovative projects in the agency’s portfolio. As their Chief Acquisition Officer from 2004-2007, Mr. Walsh directed hundreds of professionals in Washington and 75 Missions overseas, overseeing $8 billion per year in contracts and grants. He led the strategy that resolved contracting issues in over 75 missions, including Afghanistan and Iraq. Mr. Walsh began his career in development serving as a Peace Corps volunteer which he has often said, “put a human face on development.”

A light lunch will be available.
