The MDG Achievement Fund’s Contribution to Latin American Development

In partnership with the MDG Achievement Fund
Thursday, May 30, 2013 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Featuring:

Ambassador Ramón Gil-Casares, Ambassador of Spain to the U.S.

Ambassador Harold Forsyth, Ambassador of Peru to the U.S.

Bruno Moro, Director, MDG-F Secretariat

Daniel Runde, Director, Project on Prosperity and Development, CSIS

Thursday, May 30, 2:00p.m. - 3:30p.m.

The MDG Achievement Fund was established in 2007 through a landmark agreement signed between the Government of Spain and the United Nations system with the aim of accelerating progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). With a total contribution of approximately US$900 million, the MDG-Fund has financed 130 joint programs in 8 programmatic areas in 50 countries around the world, in addition to global partnerships, thematic knowledge management initiatives, and the JPO and SARC young development professionals training programs. The lessons learned from the MDG Achievement Fund are especially valuable and relevant given the current review of the next generation of MDGs being conducted by the UN System Task Team on the Post-2015 UN Development Agenda.

CSIS, in partnership with the MDG Achievement Fund, is convening this event to look at the MDG Achievement Fund’s contribution to Latin American development. Latin American countries have made incredible development strides over the past 10-15 years, which is an outstanding success story. This event seeks to highlight not only the outcomes of the MDGs in the Western Hemisphere, but also Latin American countries’ spectacular efforts in bringing broad-based development to their people.
