Meeting with Greek Deputy Defense Minister Ioannis Plakiotakis

On 23 October, the New European Democracies Project hosted the Greek Deputy Minister of Defense Ioannis Plakiotakis. A presentation held by the Deputy Minister Plakiotakis highlighted Greece’s strategically significant location at a crossroads between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Plakiotakis elaborate further on Greece’s important role in Southeastern Europe and the Balkans by serving as a source of stability for the region.

A brief discussion followed after the presentation where the contributions by Greece in the international arena were discussed, in particular the peacekeeping operations in Kosovo (KFOR), Afghanistan (ISAF), and in Lebanon.

Mr. Plakiotakis concluded his speech on a positive note and emphasized on Greece’s objective further strengthening cooperation with its neighbors and for their integration in the Euro-Atlantic structures.
