A New Agenda for the Hemisphere: Perspectives from Ambassadors

August 16, 2021 • 2:30 – 4:00 pm EDT

Please join the CSIS Americas Program for a livestream discussion with regional ambassadors to discuss joint priorities for the countries of the Western Hemisphere.

August 2021 marks the 60th anniversary of the Alliance for Progress, an initiative which aimed to improve democratization, economic development, education, and health in Latin America, as well as to strengthen regional relationships with the United States. Although the original program failed to completely meet these goals, the Western Hemisphere is currently experiencing an opportune moment to establish a new Alliance for the 21st century.

Six decades after the launch of the Alliance for Progress, the hemisphere is in need of a transformational initiative for regional reengagement; one that is based on cooperation and mutual commitment. Featured ambassadors will discuss how to foster a constructive and diverse dialogue around priorities of interest to the entire hemisphere.

This event was made possible through general funding to CSIS.
