A New Era for the "Doing Business"

September 24, 2021 • 2:00 – 3:00 pm EDT

Join us for an online webinar to discuss the impact of the World Bank’s recent decision to stop the Doing Business Indicators and how its value can be preserved.

On September 16, the World Bank management decided to discontinue the Doing Business report. The World Bank performs many functions, from financing development projects to providing research and advisory services. Providing data-driven analysis that helped countries improve their standing in specific metrics is essential to the World Bank’s functioning, making the Doing Business report one of the most critical products in global development policy. They were not perfect - there were reports of data irregularities and political interference. While those concerns should be addressed, ending the program altogether is a serious error. The Bank’s shareholders ought to revisit this decision and consider alternatives to ending this critical product.

Please join us on September 24 for this timely and important discussion with expert panelists to reflect on how the United States and other shareholders of the World Bank can work towards preserving this essential global development tool while addressing the concerns around its manipulation and politicization, ahead of the Annual Meetings in October where they will have an opportunity to formally weigh in on this issue.

This event was made possible with general support to CSIS.
