New Nuclear Suppliers

Friday, December 13, 2013 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Nuclear power is shifting East, and so too may nuclear suppliers. Nuclear energy long has been dominated by the West and by advanced economies, but this is likely to change in the next thirty years. While Japan’s nuclear industry is still reeling from the Fukushima accident, China, India, and South Korea have ambitious plans for nuclear energy at home and abroad. All three countries face capacity, regulation and financing challenges and all three have relatively little experience in export control harmonization.

CSIS, with partners in India, South Korea, and China, explored the contours of responsible nuclear supply with key technical, official, and industry experts. Please join us for a discussion of our findings, and the results of our workshops in Delhi, Seoul and Beijing, with a distinguished panel of experts:

Chris Gadomski
Head of Research, Nuclear at Bloomberg New Energy Finance

Alan Hanson
Executive Director of the International Nuclear Leadership Education Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Gretchen Hund
Senior Scientist and Leader of the Policy and Analysis Team within the Global Security, Technology & Policy Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Moderated by
Sharon Squassoni
Director and Senior Fellow of the Proliferation Prevention Program at CSIS
