Online Event: Countering Covid-19 Related Fraud
Through the CARES Act and related programs, the U.S. Government is providing over $2.4 Trillion to blunt the damage to the economy from the coronavirus pandemic. Past disaster and economic recovery programs, such as Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), have demonstrated the substantial fraud risk that the governments must confront when dispersing stimulus and other recovery funds to the public. Effectively safeguarding the United States’ pandemic response programs from criminals involves coordinated actions by a range of government agencies, including the Department of the Treasury, the Department of Justice, and various law enforcement agencies and inspectors general. This panel will discuss these efforts and the roles of Department of the Treasury, Department of Justice, and the U.S. Secret Service in addressing Covid-19 related fraud.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
